Forecast for evening of 12-29 & 12-30-07
From the TV5 Forecast Center:
Snowfall has mostly ended across Maine and from the reports it looks like it panned out pretty much as forecasted. Coastal locations, even extending as far north as Bangor saw this storm end with some rain. Otherwise most places picked up wet, heavy snow. Here are some snowfall totals from various locations in our viewing area:
Interior:
Bangor (@ TV 5): 2.5''
Newport: 5.0''
Sebec Lake: 3.1''
Coastal:
Cherryfield: 3.0''
Eastport: 2.0''
Marshfield: 1.5''
Skies will become partly cloudy tonight as the storm system that brought Maine a mixed bag of precipitation pulls away. Lows tonight will run in mid to low 20's, and winds will be west at around 10mph. That west wind will drag in high pressure for Monday, meaning mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 30's. Don't get too used to those clear skies, because they slip out of the forecast as quick as they came. By early Monday morning expect more snow to be falling across the state. The snowfall on Monday will be attributed to a glancing blow from a coastal storm. Temperatures will be in the teens and 20's for Monday so the snow will be light and fluffy and shouldn't pile up to much more than 1-3''. Skies will stay cloudy through Monday and into New Years day. More snow is in the forecast for New Years Day as well. The NYD storm looks to intensify in the gulf of Maine and could bring over 3 inches, although issuing solid snowfall totals at this time is a very difficult task.
Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows will fall in the upper teens and lower 20's.
Sunday: Mostly Sunny. High in the low to mid 30's.
Monday: Snow possible. Around 1-3'' expected. Becoming Mostly cloudy. High in the upper 20's.
Tuesday: Snow possible. Skies clearing late. High in the upper 20's.
