Forecast 10-27-08

Post by Outspoken on Mon Oct 27, 2008 8:05 am

Quiet weather can be expected for the start of our work week. The storm that brought us the wet and windy weather Sunday has pushed to our east this morning. As a result of all the rain and southerly winds yesterday, we have lots of moisture still in the low levels of the atmosphere which is giving us areas of low clouds and fog this morning. The low clouds and fog will give way to some sunshine as the day progresses. It looks like a dry day for most locations today. An area of low pressure developing to our south will push towards the state later today and may bring a few showers into downeast locations later this afternoon. Otherwise the bulk of the rain with this area of low pressure will spread into the eastern third of the state during the night tonight. If you draw a line from Bangor northward to Clayton Lake, areas along and east of that line have the best chance for some rain tonight with dry conditions to the west and south.

On Tuesday, we'll turn our focus to another area of low pressure developing south of New England. This storm is forecast to rapidly strengthen as it heads northward on a track that should take it over the western counties of Maine during the afternoon and evening hours then into Quebec at night. Rain associated with the storm will arrive during the afternoon and continue steadily into the nighttime hours before winding down late. Winds will also pick up late Tuesday as the storm moves through with winds possibly up to 40 or 50 MPH. Colder air wrapping around the backside of the storm change to rain to snow over northern and western locations before ending.

As the main storm moves to our north, upper level energy will remain over New England Wednesday, resulting in clouds and some scattered showers. With the colder air in place, the rain showers may mix with snow over northern locations. Expect drier and brighter weather for the tail end of the week.

Today: becoming partly cloudy. A few showers possible late in the afternoon over downeast locations. Still mild with highs between 57°-63°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Tonight: becoming cloudy. Rain developing over eastern areas. Patchy fog. Lows in the 40s. North wind 5-10 MPH.

Tuesday: mostly cloudy with scattered showers during the morning, steadier rain arriving during the afternoon and evening. Highs between 52°-58°. Northeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Wednesday: mostly cloudy, breezy and much cooler. Scattered showers, mixed with snow up north. Highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.

Thursday: morning clouds then clearing. Highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.

Friday: mostly sunny with highs near 50°.
