Forecast 10-23-08

Post by Outspoken on Thu Oct 23, 2008 4:42 am

Strong high pressure is centered over southwestern Quebec this morning and is forecast to control our weather here in New England for the next couple of days. The area of high pressure will slide southward towards New Jersey then out to sea south of New England over the next 24-48 hours. This will provide us with a quiet stretch of weather through Saturday before our next weathermaker arrives Saturday night into Sunday.

We'll start out with some lingering high clouds in spots this morning, otherwise high pressure will give us plenty of sunshine for today. There is still a bit of a pressure gradient over the region today especially this morning, which will result in northwesterly winds between 10-15 MPH today with a few gusts to 20 MPH possible. Temperatures will remain a bit below normal with highs this afternoon in the mid-40s to around 50°. Skies will start out clear tonight with a few clouds arriving after midnight. These clouds will be associated with an upper level disturbance passing to our north. Some of the cloudiness will cross through Maine tonight and early Friday. Expect a sunny day Friday with temperatures back to normal. Highs Friday will top off in the 50s.

Our weekend will start dry Saturday. Mostly sunny skies will be with us Saturday morning followed by increasing clouds during the afternoon as our next storm approaches New England. Our next chance for wet weather will arrive Saturday night into Sunday morning as a strong storm system moves in from our west. Expect a quick shot of moderate to heavy rain that will wind down Sunday morning. Dry air wrapping around the storm will clear us out Sunday afternoon.

Today: mostly sunny and breezy. Afternoon highs between 44°-50°. Northwest wind 10-15 MPH with gusts to 20 MPH possible.

Tonight: clear to partly cloudy. Lows between 24°-31°. Northwest wind 5-10 MPH.

Friday: mostly sunny and seasonable. Highs between 51°-58°. Northwest wind 5-10 MPH.

Saturday: mostly sunny to start followed by increasing clouds during the afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 50s.

Sunday: morning rain ending then clearing skies from west to east during the afternoon. Breezy, especially during the morning. Highs in the low to mid-50s.

Monday: partly to mostly cloudy. Scattered showers possible. Highs in the low to mid-50s.
