Forecast 10-21-08

Post by Outspoken on Tue Oct 21, 2008 6:24 am

An area of low pressure will move out of western New York State today and into southern New England by this evening. The ridge of high pressure that brought us the beautiful weather Monday will hang on to keep much of the state dry during the daylight hours. Showers associated with the storm will spread into Maine this afternoon, mainly for northern and western locations. With a cool start this morning and clouds in place, high temperatures will be on the cool side, only reaching the mid-40s to low 50s this afternoon. Cooler air moving to the state during the overnight tonight will cause showers to change to light snow up north and a rain/snow mix elsewhere, mainly over interior sections. Some light accumulation is possible up north tonight and early Wednesday morning especially in the higher terrain.

The storm will gradually pull away from the region on Wednesday. Scattered rain and snow showers Wednesday morning will wind down by early afternoon or so. Strong high pressure building in from the north will bring brightening skies from north to south across the state Wednesday afternoon. With strong high pressure building in from the north and low pressure exiting to our south and east, expect a gusty northerly wind Wednesday, which will keep things very chilly. Afternoon highs on Wednesday will range from the upper 30s to mid-40s and with the wind factored in, it'll feel more like its around 30° at times.

High pressure will dominate the forecast for the end of the week. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will feature plenty of sunshine. Highs will top off in the 40s Tuesday and near 50° Friday, and in the low to mid- 50s Saturday.

Today: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers developing this afternoon, mainly over northern and western areas. Cool with high temperatures ranging from 46°- 54°. North/northeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Tonight: showers likely. Showers will change to all snow along and north of a line from Greenville to around Presque Isle with accumulations of 1"-3" possible especially on grassy surfaces. Rain will mix with snow for interior locations after midnight, with just plain rain along the coast. Lows in the 30s. Northeast wind 10-15 MPH will increase to 15-20 MPH after midnight.

Wednesday: scattered rain and snow showers through early afternoon. Brightening skies from north to south during the mid-late afternoon. Windy and chilly. Highs between 37°-46°. North wind 15-25 MPH.

Thursday: mostly sunny and breezy with highs in the 40s.

Friday: mostly sunny and a bit warmer with highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s.

Saturday: mostly sunny with highs in the 50s.
