Forecast 10-20-08
We'll continue our beautiful stretch of fall weather into the day today. High pressure will remain in control as it slides just south of New England. This will provide us with lots of sunshine today. There will some high cloudiness grazing downeast locations especially this morning as a storm over the ocean passes to our south and east. After a very frosty start this morning, temperatures will warm up to the low and mid-50s. Skies will start clear tonight followed by increasing clouds from west to east. Overnight lows won't be quite as cold tonight with the clouds arriving. Most locations can expect temperatures near 30° or in the low 30s but some eastern areas will see lows dropping into the mid and upper 20s as those locations will be the last to see the increasing cloudiness.
On Tuesday an area of low pressure will move out of western New York State and into southern New England. Expect showers associated with the storm to spread across Maine from mid-morning into the afternoon. With clouds and showers in place Tuesday, high temperatures will be on the cool side, only reaching the mid-40s to low 50s. Showers will change to light snow up north Tuesday night and a rain/snow mix elsewhere as temperatures drop back to the low and mid-30s. Some light accumulation is possible up north Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning especially in the higher terrain. Any light snow or mixed precipitation Wednesday morning will change back to scattered rain showers then wind down during the afternoon. Strong high pressure building in from the north may bring some breaks of sun Wednesday afternoon especially over northern and western parts of the state. With strong high pressure building in from the north and low pressure exiting to our south and east, expect a gusty northeast wind Wednesday, which will keep things very chilly. Afternoon highs on Wednesday will range from the upper 30s to mid-40s.
High pressure will dominate the forecast for the end of the week. Thursday and Friday will feature plenty of sunshine. Highs will top off in the 40s Tuesday and near 50° Friday afternoon.
Today: sunny and pleasant. Highs between 51°-56°. North wind 10 MPH.
Tonight: increasing clouds. Lows between 25°-33°. Light north wind.
Tuesday: mostly cloudy. Showers developing mainly during the afternoon, steadiest over northern and western areas. Cool with highs between 44°-54°. North/northeast wind 5-10 MPH.
Wednesday: mostly cloudy. Early light snow or mixed precipitation changing to scattered showers then winding down late. Sunny breaks possible later in the afternoon especially northern and western areas. Breezy and chilly. Highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.
Thursday: mostly sunny with highs in the 40s.
Friday: mostly sunny. A few clouds may move into northern and western areas during the afternoon. Highs near 50°.
