Forecast 10-10-08
High pressure will build into the northeastern U.S. during the day today. With low pressure to our northeast and high pressure moving in from the west, the winds will be gusty today with gusts to 25 MPH possible. Otherwise expect a good amount of sunshine in most locations today. The exception will be for areas around Greenville to Millinocket and points north. Upper level energy will continue to slide across northern Maine today, generating more in the way of clouds and possibly a brief shower. Skies will average clear to partly cloudy tonight with lows dropping to the low and mid-40s.
Strong high pressure will be in control for Saturday giving us a spectacular start to the weekend. Expect lots of sun Saturday and slightly cooler temperatures with highs in the mid-50s to around 60°. Sunday will start out mostly sunny but as high pressure slides to our south, clouds will move in from the north. These clouds are associated with a very weak cold front that is forecast to drop through the state Sunday night. The frontal passage may be accompanied by a few light showers.
High pressure builds in from the north on Monday. This will give us lots of sunshine for our Columbus Day holiday. Expect temperatures to range from the upper 50s to low 60s on Monday. Another cold front will move into the state on Tuesday bringing increasing clouds and some afternoon showers. The airmass behind Tuesday's cold front won't cool much with seasonable temperatures expected through the middle and end of next week.
Today: partly to mostly cloudy with a slight chance for a shower from Greenville to Millinocket northward, mostly sunny elsewhere. Breezy. High temperatures will range from 58°-68°. Northwest wind 10-20 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH possible.
Tonight: clear to partly cloudy. Lows between 41°-46°. Northwest wind 5-10 MPH.
Saturday: partly to mostly sunny. Breezy and a bit cooler. Highs between 54°-61°. Northwest wind 10-18 MPH.
Sunday: mostly sunny. Becoming partly sunny north. Highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Columbus Day: lots of sun with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Tuesday: increasing clouds. Scattered showers developing during the afternoon. Highs in the mid-50s to near 60°.
