Forecast 10-09-08
A cold front will quickly pass through the state today, accompanied by clouds and some light showers. The front will be off to our east by early/mid-afternoon bringing the showers to an end. West/southwesterly winds in the wake of the front will help to dry things out from west to east across the state with sunshine developing from late morning into the afternoon. Energy in the upper levels of the atmosphere moving through southern Quebec will help to keep clouds a bit more prevalent over northern areas this afternoon along with the chance for a few more showers. Quiet conditions expected tonight with most of the clouds focused over the northern half of the state with the upper level energy in the area, clear skies further south.
High pressure will build into the northeastern U.S. during the day Friday. With low pressure to our northeast and high pressure moving in from the west, the winds will be gusty Friday with gusts to 25 MPH possible. Otherwise Friday's forecast will feature plenty of sunshine. Upper level energy will continue to slide across northern Maine Friday, which means there will be a few more clouds for northern areas along with a slight chance of a shower passing through. Strong high pressure will be in control for Saturday giving us a spectacular start to the weekend. Expect lots of sun Saturday with highs in the mid-50s to low 60s. We'll see a mix of sun and clouds Sunday as high pressure slides to our south and a cold front approaches from the north. The cold front will drop through the state Sunday night accompanied a few light showers. High pressure will then build down from eastern Canada in the wake of the cold front to bring us more sunshine on Monday.
Today: mostly cloudy with scattered showers mainly this morning. Developing sunshine from west to east across the state from late morning into this afternoon. A few showers will still be possible for northern areas this afternoon. Daytime high temperatures between 56°-66°. Southwest wind 10-15 MPH.
Tonight: partly to mostly cloudy for Greenville to Millinocket and points north, mostly clear elsewhere. A shower possible up north. Lows between 45°-50°. West wind 5-10 MPH.
Friday: partly to mostly sunny, most clouds north. Slight chance of a shower north. Breezy. Highs between 58°-66°. Northwest wind 10-20 MPH with a few higher gusts.
Saturday: mostly sunny with highs in the mid-50s to low 60s.
Sunday: mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Columbus Day: mostly sunny with highs in the mid- 50s to lower 60s.
