Forecast 10-01-08
An area of low pressure moving through southern Quebec will be our main focus for today. Showers associated with the storm will push eastward across Maine today with the most numerous shower activity occurring this afternoon. The storm will push a front into the state later tonight. This will combine with energy in the mid-levels of the atmosphere moving in from the south, to bring a steadier period of rain into downeast areas after midnight. Otherwise, the rest of the state will see scattered showers and some patchy fog for the overnight hours.
Showers will continue Thursday, steadiest during the morning then becoming more widely scattered by afternoon, as the front clears the state. Winds will turn to the west/southwest behind the front and this will help dry things out a bit with some breaks of sun developing Thursday afternoon. The storm will move into eastern Canada later Thursday into Friday. Moisture wrapping around the storm will keep some cloudiness across the state for the end of the week Friday, mainly over northern locations. Areas further south towards the coast will see brighter skies. Cooler air will drop southward from eastern Canada on the backside of the departing storm, setting us up for a breezy and cool Friday with highs in the 50s. We may even see a few snow showers in the higher terrain Friday night with the cooler air in place.
A weak ridge will slide through New England Saturday giving us some sunshine to start the weekend. Saturday's forecast will feature a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 50s. A cold front will drop through the region on Sunday, giving us a reinforcing shot of cool air for the second half of the weekend. The front may trigger a light shower in spots.
Today: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers, most numerous during the afternoon. Afternoon highs between 58°-64°. East wind 5-10 MPH becoming southeast.
Tonight: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Steadier rain is possible for downeast locations after midnight. Patchy fog. Lows between 48°-53°. Southeast wind 5- 10 MPH.
Thursday: scattered showers, most numerous during the morning. Otherwise expect mostly cloudy skies with some breaks of sun possible during the afternoon. Breezy. Highs between 55°-65°. Winds will become west/southwest 10-15 MPH.
