Forecast 09-30-08

Post by Outspoken on Tue Sep 30, 2008 5:43 am

Moisture trapped in the low levels of the atmosphere will result in lots of clouds over the state today. A dry northerly wind combined with a weak ridge of high pressure building through New England may allow for some breaks of sunshine, otherwise skies will turn out mostly cloudy for today. With a cooler, drier airmass in place, our temperatures will be seasonable today with highs in the upper 50s to mid- 60s. Skies will remain mostly cloudy tonight with lows in the 40s to near 50°.
An area of low pressure moving into central and southern Quebec will be our weathermaker for Wednesday. Showers associated with the storm will push eastward into Maine late Wednesday morning through the afternoon. The storm will push a front through the state Thursday morning. Showers will continue Thursday, steadiest during the morning then becoming more widely scattered once the front has moved through the state by early to mid-afternoon. The storm will strengthen as it moves into eastern Canada later Thursday into Friday. Moisture wrapping around the storm will keep some cloudiness across the state for the end of the week Friday, mainly over northern locations. Areas further south towards the coast will see brighter skies. Cooler air will drop southward from eastern Canada on the backside of the departing storm, setting us up for a breezy and cool Friday with highs only in the 50s. We may even see a few snow showers in the higher terrain Friday night with the cooler air in place.

Today: mostly cloudy. A few breaks of sun possible. High temperatures between 59°-65°. North wind 5-10 MPH.

Tonight: mostly cloudy. Lows between 44°-50°. Light and variable wind.

Wednesday: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers developing mainly during the afternoon. Highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Thursday: scattered showers, most numerous during the morning. Otherwise expect mostly cloudy skies with some breaks of sun possible during the afternoon. Highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Friday: variably cloudy. A few showers possible up north. Breezy and cool. Highs in the 50s.

Saturday: mix of sun and clouds. Highs in the mid-50s to around 60°.
