Forecast 09-26-08

Post by Outspoken on Fri Sep 26, 2008 6:34 am

High pressure will hang on to keep things brighter and drier for northern parts of the state today. From Greenville to Millinocket and points northward will see partly to mostly sunny skies with temperatures topping off around 70°. Further south, we'll see mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures as a result with highs expected in the low to mid-60s.and some rain developing during the afternoon as moisture associated with a storm over the Carolinas moves into New England. The best chance for showers will occur along and south of a line stretching from Rangeley to Calais. The rain will continue to spread northward across the rest of the state tonight.

Rain will continue throughout the day Saturday, falling heavily at times. Then our focus turns to a second storm currently centered east of the Bahamas. This storm has now been named Tropical Storm Kyle by the National Hurricane Center and is expected to trek northward across the Atlantic towards New England, passing over downeast Maine Sunday afternoon. Tropical Storm Kyle will bring us periods of heavy rainfall from late Saturday night through Sunday. It looks like the entire state will see at least 2" of rainfall with some spots in excess of 4" or 5" especially along the coast. Rain will taper to showers Sunday afternoon as the storm pulls away from the region. We'll also deal with some gusty winds Sunday as the storm moves by with winds possibly gusting in excess of 50 MPH at times over downeast locations and in excess of 30 MPH across the rest of the state, which could result in some scattered power outages.

We may see a lingering shower or two early Monday morning followed by clearing skies during the afternoon. A ridge of high pressure will build in for Tuesday providing us with lots of sunshine and highs in the 60s.

Today: partly to mostly sunny from Greenville to Millinocket and points north, mostly cloudy elsewhere. Showers developing this afternoon along and south of a line from Rangeley to Calais. High temperatures between 61°-68°. Southeast wind around 10 MPH.

Tonight: periods of rain. Patchy fog. Lows in the 50s. Southeast wind 10-15 MPH.

Saturday: periods of rain, heavy at times. Breezy. High in the 60s. Southeast wind 8-15 MPH.

Sunday: periods of rain, heavy at times. Rain will taper to showers during the afternoon. Gusty winds. Highs in the mid-60s to around 70°.

Monday: a morning shower possible then clearing. Highs in the mid-60s to around 70°.

Tuesday: mostly sunny with highs in the 60s.
