Forecast 08-18-08
A cold front will approach from the north and west this afternoon. After a sunny start to the day, we'll see some clouds moving in ahead of the front this afternoon. As the front gets closer we'll see some scattered showers and thunderstorms developing late in the day mainly for northern and western parts of the state. Some of the thunderstorms could be severe with hail, gusty winds and heavy downpours. All locations will be under the gun for some showers and thunderstorms tonight as the cold front crosses the state.
The cold front will be moving just off to our east early Tuesday. With the front still in the vicinity, we could see a few lingering showers early Tuesday morning over eastern and coastal areas. Otherwise any early clouds will clear out as the morning progresses. Clouds wrapping around the departing storm will keep skies partly sunny over the northern half of the state with mostly sunny skies expected elsewhere. Northwest winds will keep things on the cool side Tuesday with highs only reaching the mid-60s to low 70s. High pressure building towards New England Wednesday will provide us a beautiful sunny day. A few clouds will associated with warmer air moving into the mid-levels of the atmosphere will move into the state Wednesday afternoon.
High pressure will dominate our forecast for the end of the week. The area of high pressure will centered just to our south, setting us up with a warm, southwesterly wind. Expect lots of sunshine Thursday and Friday with both days seeing temperatures topping off in the upper 70s to mid-80s.
Today: mostly sunny this morning then becoming partly sunny this afternoon. Scattered late afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms possible especially over northern and western areas. Some of the thunderstorms could be severe with gusty winds, heavy downpours and hail. Afternoon high temperatures between 77°-84°. South/southwest wind 10-15 MPH.
Tonight: mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Lows between 57°-63°. Southwest wind 5-10 MPH.
Tuesday: an early shower possible over eastern and coastal locations otherwise lingering morning clouds will give way to partly to mostly sunny skies. Cooler with highs between 64°-74°. Northwest wind 10-15 MPH.
Wednesday: mostly sunny with a few afternoon clouds. Highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s.
Thursday and Friday: lots of sun with highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s.
