Forecast 08-08-08

Post by Outspoken on Fri Aug 08, 2008 6:06 am

The pesky upper low situated to our north and west triggered the development of a new area of low pressure near Long Island last night. This new storm will track northeastward along the Maine coast this afternoon and tonight, bringing us more showers and possibly a few thunderstorms today. Some of the rain may be heavy at times as well. Showers will continue tonight with patchy fog developing.

The storm will gradually lift northward across the state Saturday, pushing the best moisture to our north as well. Winds across the state will turn to the west/southwest, helping to dry us out a bit this weekend, and allow for some sunshine to develop throughout New England both Saturday and Sunday. With some sun expected this weekend, temps will warm to normal by Sunday. Cool air aloft associated with the upper low to our northwest will still keep the risk of scattered showers and maybe a few thunderstorms going Saturday. After some morning sunshine and a dry start to the day Sunday, another upper level low will approach from the west, bringing us some more clouds during the afternoon and maybe a few scattered showers and thunderstorms later in the day. The storm system will cross the state on Monday giving us a good chance for showers to start the work week.

Today: mostly cloudy with scattered showers, a thunderstorm possible. Rain may be heavy at times. Highs in the 60s. East/southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Tonight: mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Patchy fog. Lows between 53°-58°. Light and variable wind.

Saturday: partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Light winds will become southwest 5-10 MPH.

Sunday: partly to mostly cloudy with a few showers possible during the afternoon, maybe a thunderstorm. Highs in the 70s to near 80°.

Monday: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Highs in the 70s.

Tuesday: partly cloudy with a few afternoon showers possible. Highs in the 70s.
