Forecast 07-31-08

Post by Outspoken on Thu Jul 31, 2008 5:45 am

Showers and thunderstorms are likely today as a frontal system moves into New England. Some of the stronger showers and thunderstorms may have some heavy downpours with them. Expect showers to continue Thursday night as the storm moves into western Maine. It will fizzle out over the state during the day Friday but there will still be enough instability to generate more showers and thunderstorms especially during the afternoon hours. With the clouds and showers in place, Friday's high temperatures will remain in the low to mid-70s. Some drier air located south and west of Maine may move into the state Friday night allowing showers to wind down for a bit.

The weekend forecast will remain on the unsettled side as energy in the upper levels of the atmosphere spins through New York State. This energy will help fire up some more showers and thunderstorms Saturday especially during the afternoon time. Also, this energy will trigger the development of an area of low pressure over the mid-Atlantic. The new area of low pressure will track south of New England Saturday then just south of the Gulf of Maine during Sunday. This looks to bring us some steadier rainfall for Sunday, some of which may be heavy at times. The rain will move out late Sunday night or early Monday as the storm slides to our east. Some drier air coming into the state Monday should taper the showers off and may allow for some breaks of sunshine Monday afternoon.

Today: mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Humid. High temperatures between 73°-79°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Tonight: scattered showers, a thunderstorm possible. Areas of fog. Lows between 58°-63°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Friday: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers and thunderstorms possible especially during the afternoon. Humid. Highs in the 70s. Southeast wind 5- 10 MPH.

Saturday: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers, a few thunderstorms possible especially during the afternoon. Highs in the 70s.

Sunday: periods of rain. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Monday: morning showers then mostly cloudy. A few breaks of sun possible during the afternoon. Highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s.
