forecast 06-04-08
A storm moving east along a stationary front located to our south will bring numerous showers to much of the state today, with the steadiest rain falling south of Greenville and Millinocket. Northern Maine will escape the shower activity as high pressure centered over central Quebec keeps northern locations dry with some sunshine today. Showers will gradually wind down later today into this evening as a ridge of high pressure begins to slide into the region.
A ridge of high pressure will build through New England Thursday, bringing sunshine back to our forecast and temperatures where they should be with many locales reaching near the 70° mark Thursday afternoon. A warm front forecast to move through the state Friday may bring a few scattered showers or thundershowers to the state Thursday night and Friday with the best chance occurring over northern cities and towns.
Some very warm air building into the Ohio River Valley over the next couple of days will slowly move into New England this weekend. Another warm front lifting through New England Saturday and Saturday night could trigger a few showers or thundershowers in spots Saturday otherwise the biggest feature with the front will be the warmer air that it ushers in. South/southwest winds this weekend will push temps well above normal along with higher humidity.
Today: occasional showers, steadiest from Greenville to Millinocket and points south. Expect partly cloudy skies to the north. High temperatures this afternoon will range from 59°-67°, warmest north. Winds will become southeast 5-10 MPH.
Tonight: a few early showers possible then partly to mostly cloudy. Lows between 43°-52°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH becoming northeast.
Thursday: mix of sun and clouds. Highs between 65°- 72°. East/northeast wind 5-10 MPH.
Friday: mostly cloudy with a few showers possible especially up north. Brightening skies by mid-late afternoon. Highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s.
Saturday: partly cloudy. A shower or thunderstorm possible mainly over western locations. Warmer with highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s.
Sunday: partly cloudy and warm. Highs will top off in the mid-70s to low 80s.
