Forecast 05-28-08
High pressure centered over the Great Lakes will continue to nose its way into New England today, giving us a beautiful sunny day. With a cooler airmass in place, temperatures will be running near or below normal this afternoon with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s. Another cold front will move towards the state late tonight, then through the area Thursday. The frontal passage will be accompanied by some clouds and a few light rain showers. The thickest clouds and best chance for any showers will occur over areas north of Bangor. For Bangor and points south and west, expect brighter and drier conditions. The front will clear the state later in the afternoon, allowing skies to clear out from west to east during the mid-late afternoon hours.
Sunshine will return in full force for the end of the week Friday as high pressure builds into the region. The sunny and dry weather will be short-lived though as rain returns for the start of the weekend. An area of low pressure will pass through central New England Saturday then south of Maine Saturday night. This will bring us lots of clouds and numerous showers Saturday. With the clouds and rain showers in place, temperatures will be cool Saturday with highs in the mid-50s to around 60°. Rain will wind down from west to east across the state Saturday night as the storm moves off to our east. The weekend won't be a total loss though as high pressure is forecast to build in again on Sunday, providing us with sunshine and warmer temps for the second half of the weekend.
Today: lots of sunshine, breezy and cooler. High temperatures between 57°-67°. Northwest wind 10-18 MPH.
Tonight: increasing clouds. A few light showers possible up north after midnight. Lows between 40°- 45°. Southwest wind 5-10 MPH.
Thursday: partly to mostly cloudy and windy with scattered showers. The best chance for showers will be to the north of Bangor. Skies will begin to clear out later in the afternoon. Afternoon high temperatures between 61°-71°. Southwest wind 15-25 MPH becoming west then northwest late.
Friday: mostly sunny with highs in the 60s.
Saturday: mostly cloudy with showers likely. Cool with highs in the mid-50s to near 60°.
Sunday: partly to mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.
