Forecast 05-20-08

Post by Outspoken on Tue May 20, 2008 4:46 am

Our forecast remains under the influence of an area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere spinning just north of New England. Weak disturbances wrapping around the low will trigger a few showers in spots over the next few days.

We'll start with some sunshine in spots this morning with clouds building and becoming a little more prevalent this afternoon. As a disturbance approaches the state this afternoon, we may see a few showers popping up during the afternoon hours. Any shower activity today will be widely scattered and not nearly as numerous as Monday. With that said, the atmosphere today will be more stable than it was Monday which means that we won't have to worry about any thunderstorms or hail today. Clouds and showers will stick around during the night tonight as an area of low pressure passes well south and east of Maine. The storm may be close enough to graze coastal areas with some steadier showers or light rain after midnight.

Wednesday and Thursday will be cloudy and cool with a chance of showers each day. High temperatures will only reach the 50s to near 60°. The upper low will pull away from the region during the day Friday. A trough will pass through the state Friday morning giving us a chance for a few showers during the morning hours. Drier conditions will prevail during the afternoon as the trough exits the area and northwest winds take over. Expect skies to clear out Friday night, leading to a great start to the holiday weekend. High pressure building through the Great Lakes will bring us lots of sunshine Saturday and warmer temperatures with highs reaching the 60s to near 70°.

Today: partly to mostly cloudy. Scattered showers possible, mainly this afternoon. Highs between 53°- 62°. Southwest wind 10-15 MPH.

Tonight: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers possible especially along the coast. Lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. Winds will become north/northeast 5-10 MPH.

Wednesday & Thursday: mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Highs in the 50s to around 60°.

Friday: mostly cloudy with showers possible during the morning, drier during the afternoon. Skies will clear out at night. Highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s.

Saturday: partly to mostly sunny. Mild with highs in the 60s to near 70°.
