Forecast 05-19-08

An area of low pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will keep our weather a bit unsettled for much of this week. A weak disturbance swinging through the state this afternoon will trigger some scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms this afternoon. Any thunderstorms that develop may contain some small hail. Cooler air moving into the state combined with cloudiness today will keep our high temperatures in the 50s and low 60s this afternoon. Shower activity will quiet down tonight as the disturbance passes to our east. A weak ridge of high pressure will allow the clouds to break up tonight and give us a little sunshine tomorrow morning. Tuesday will start with some sunshine in spots during the morning before more clouds roll in by late morning or early afternoon. We could see a few more showers Tuesday with the best chance being over northern and mountain locations.

Wednesday will feature lots of clouds with a few scattered showers. The wettest day this week will likely be Thursday as the upper low moves right overhead and gives us numerous showers across the state. The upper low will finally start moving east of New England Thursday night and early Friday, making room for a ridge of high pressure to build our way for the upcoming holiday weekend. Skies will clear out Friday with highs near 60°. As the ridge builds in for the weekend, we should see some decent sunshine and warming temperatures.

Today: variably cloudy. Scattered showers with a thunderstorm possible. Any thunderstorm that develops may have some small hail. Afternoon high temperatures between 53°-63°. Southwest wind 10- 20 MPH.

Tonight: partly to mostly cloudy. Scattered showers possible mainly up north. Lows between 39°-44°. Southwest wind diminishing to 7-12 MPH.

Tuesday: some morning sun possible then mostly cloudy. Scattered showers possible, mainly up north and in the mountains. Highs in the 50s to near 60°. Southwest wind 10-18 MPH.

Wednesday: mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Highs in the mid-50s to around 60°.

Thursday: showers likely. Highs in the mid-50s to near 60°.

Friday: clearing skies. Highs in the mid-50s to low 60s.
