Forecast 05-16-08
We're in for a nice end to our work week with a weak area of high pressure building into the region today and providing us with a good amount of sunshine today. High clouds associated with our next storm system will begin moving into the state later this morning into the afternoon. Skies will average out mostly sunny for most locations today but with the high clouds expected to increase this afternoon, the skies will turn partly sunny for the Bangor area points south and west. Clouds will continue to thicken up tonight as our next storm system approaches the area leading to mostly cloudy conditions for areas south of Greenville and Millinocket, partly cloudy to the north. This next storm will pass south of New England late tonight, pushing a few showers into our immediate coastal locales and the outer islands after midnight.
Another close call this weekend with another storm tracking south and east of Maine on Saturday. This southerly track will keep the heaviest rain just offshore with the northern fringe grazing coastal areas during the day Saturday. The shower chances will drop off quickly as you travel inland. Northern areas may even see some sunshine Saturday. Showers will move out later Saturday afternoon and evening as the storm passes off to our east.
A second area of low pressure will move in from the west for Sunday, pushing a cold front through the state during the day. This front will provide us with a good chance for showers in all locations Sunday. A cooler airmass moving in behind the front will keep temperatures in the 50s for highs Sunday afternoon. Low pressure will remain spinning to our north Monday and Tuesday keeping us under the clouds and cool temperatures. Showers will be possible each of the days, with the best chance occurring over northern and mountain locations.
Today: mostly sunny. Becoming partly sunny this afternoon around Bangor points south and west. Afternoon highs between 64°-71°. Northwest wind 5- 10 MPH becoming southwest.
Tonight: partly cloudy Greenville to Milllinocket and points north. Becoming cloudy elsewhere. Showers possible after midnight primarily along the coast and outer islands. Lows between 39°-45°. Light north/northeast winds.
Saturday: mostly cloudy. Scattered showers possible from Greenville to Millinocket southward with the steadiest showers occurring along the coast and outer islands. Highs in the 60s. North wind 5-10 MPH.
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday: mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Cooler with highs in the 50s to near 60°.
