Forecast 01-09-08

From the TV 5 Forecast Center:

Near record highs will continue for the 2nd day in a row on Wednesday. Highs will once again push into the 50's despite a thick cloud deck across much of the state. The temperatures continue their upward trend thanks in part to a strong southwest wind dragging in warm, moist air from the south. That air is also unstable and we could be in for a few isolated thunderstorms as a cold front passes later this afternoon. Scattered showers will also pass this afternoon. The air behind our inbound cold front is about 20 degrees cooler than our current temperatures, so there is a significant temperature gradient to our west, which will lead to strong winds this afternoon and Thursday. Expect winds to switch from SW to W and be 15-25mph with some gusts over 40mph possible. While the aforementioned air is 20 degrees cooler it STILL is almost 5 degrees above climate normals. High pressure will take over on Thursday when this cooler air settles over us, with highs getting into the lower 40's. Clouds roll back in Thursday night with another system coming from the Gulf of Mexico. Precipitation will start out as snow, switch to sleet, then to rain by Friday night. Highs on Friday will be slightly above freezing and lows will dip below the freezing mark, so watch out for black ice if you're out and about Friday night. Saturday will stay mostly cloudy with a small chance of snow showers in the morning.

Today: Fog early. Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Isolated T-Storms possible. High 47-57. Winds SW becoming W 15-25mph with gusts over 40mph downeast. Lows 26-35.

Thursday: Partly cloudy. Cooler. High around 40. Clouds arrive late, lows near 25.

Friday: Snow becoming rain by afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 30's. Low around freezing.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy. High around 40, lows in the teens.

Sunday: Back to normal January weather! Partly cloudy. High around freezing, low in the lower teens or single digits.
