Maine's tallest ski mountain becomes the second resort to open its slopes.

CARRABASSETT VALLEY - Sugarloaf kicks off the 2007-08 winter season and welcomes skiers and riders back to the slopes on Friday, Nov. 9, more than a week ahead of schedule and with the most open vertical drop in the East. Several inches of natural snow on Tuesday combined with favorable snowmaking conditions have enabled Maine’s tallest winter resort to open early.
Sluice and Lower Winters Way trails offer nearly 1,700 vertical feet of open terrain and are recommended for advanced skiers and riders. Lift service will be provided by the Double Runner East and Spillway West lifts. Lift tickets are $25.
“We have made substantial investment in the latest snowmaking technologies that enable us to make much greater quantities of snow at higher temperatures,” said Rich Wilkinson, Sugarloaf’s vice president of operations. “As a result, we’re open early and expect to be able to open terrain faster than we ever have.”
Season passes that are valid at Sugarloaf and Sunday River are currently on sale from $349 and include discounts and benefits at many other Boyne USA resorts nationwide.
Sugarloaf's early season tradition, Tin Mountain Round Up, will be held as scheduled on Nov. 17-18 when skiers and riders can purchase lift tickets for only $24 when they donate three cans of food. The annual food drive helps restock the shelves at local food pantries just in time for the busy holiday season.
Because being back on snow is reason to celebrate, Sugarloaf's Widowmaker Lounge will host a season kick off party Nov. 16. Join the on air team from WTOS 105.1 FM as they broadcast live all day long concluding with a special après ski party with music from Gristlestick.
