PRESQUE ISLE, Maine A national magazine that caters to those who spend time in the great outdoors has singled out Presque Isle and three other Maine towns for what they offer to outdoor enthusiasts.
Presque Isle garnered the No. 77 spot on the list of the "Top 200 Towns for Outdoorsman." The list is included in the March edition of Outdoor Life magazine.
The city was selected based on several factors, including its huntable and fishable species and for its year-round hunting opportunities.
Three other locations in the state Cumberland, Skowhegan and Bangor, at No. 37, No. 122 and No. 135, respectively also were included on the list.
City Manager Tom Stevens said Tuesday that he was thrilled to see the city included in the listing.
"I think it is exciting any time you can be highlighted for something like this in a national publication," he said. "Its neat."
The news was passed on to Stevens by Alain Ouellette, director of economic and community development for the Northern Maine Development Commission. He was unavailable for comment Tuesday.
According to a statement from the magazine, those who built the list looked at locations across the nation with populations of more than 4,000 people.
Presque Isle has about 10,000 residents.
