Tina Parady, 24, stood beside her small, red SUV at her home in Old Town on Wednesday and the top of her head barely reached the door handle.
The 3-foot-2-inch woman is hoping to earn her driver’s license at the end of the month and was meeting with her driving instructor because she wanted to get a little more driving under her belt before the big day.
"I want to be more independent," she said with a voice that matched her size. "I don’t like to ask people to provide."
To get into her SUV, Parady opened the driver’s-side door and pushed one of two small red buttons to lower an elevator-style lift, which she then sat on. When she pushed the second red button, the device lifted her to the seat level. Once in the seat, she folded the lift to a position that lies between her seat and the door.
