ORRINGTON, Maine - The personal touch that Bangor Daily News columnist Joni Averill puts into her writing makes reading her column a pleasant daily experience, a community leader who has worked with her said Wednesday.
John Mugnai, president of the Curran Homestead Living History Farm and Museum’s board, said Averill’s years of work supporting local organizations and people are why she will be honored Saturday.
Averill will be honored with Joni Averill Day during Curran Homestead’s annual Olde Fashioned Country Fair at Fields Pond. It will include an all-you-can-eat barbecue and live music in her honor at noon. In addition to the farm operators, other area groups will be on hand to thank Averill for her work and dedication.
She will be presented with the World of Thanks Award, a tribute created specifically for her.
"We have given thanks to certain other people, but this is the first time we’ve given this World of Thanks Award," Mugnai said.
"She has been very, very instrumental in promoting local area events," Mugnai said. "She’s helped the Curran Farm a number of times by promoting the things we stand for and giving us a lot of publicity as far as the events going on.
"And she’s done an awful lot to promote other local activities through her Bangor Daily News columns," he said.
