China and the Recalls

Post by Robert Pooler on Wed Oct 31, 2007 1:41 pm

It seems to me that China only exports crap. When you read the recalls it mostly has to do with China exports.
I must ask myself, why do the people keep buying it and why is this crap allowed on the shelves. I have one rule, when it says made in China, it should stay in China. I refuse to buy things made in China, I don't care how cheap it is. I refuse to support these criminals and there country. My opinion is that the world should boycott China. What do you think?

I agree 110%! I checked my home and found that most everything I own says, made in China! I'll be making much wiser choices and making sure to check where it was made before I purchase anything now.

Are you serious? Most of the products are made "for" American companies. The reason for the major numbers of recalls for lead paint is because our own Country doesn't do inspections well enough. There aren't enough people in the payroll for inspections and the Fed now knows that. Things have been allowed to slip through by "word of mouth" inspections. I think you'll find that will no longer be allowed to happen. A lot of it isn't China's fault. It's the fault of the American companies who are too cheap to pay our own people to do the work. Sort of like the auto makers who build factories in Mexico for the same reason. The natives don't care what they are making or how it's being made. It's not their concern. Their concern is doing the job assigned and getting paid to do it. The paycheck is the only goal for them. My opinion? You want to blame someone, blame the U.S. companies who are taking advantage of cheap labor in order to make a "cheap" product.

You make some good points Outspoken. American's have been purchasing everything from China because it is cheap labor and it keeps our costs down. China has known all along, what our standards are. But China knew they could continue to do as they wished because American's weren't inspecting and they wanted cheap products. Finally with enough complaints from consumers, and sadly the illnesses brought on by the use of these products, the American's are finally buckeling down. Now it will only be a matter of time that China is going to pull away from us and then maybe we can take advantage of this entire thing by getting our productions back.

This does mean that the prices will go up. I doubt you'll find many Americans who will be willing to work for what the Chinese do. Not to mention the insurance and other benefits that will be expected. I remember living in the South and hearing that the Mexican government was insisting that the large American producers there offer health insurance. The response was "Fine. We'll just move somewhere else." Really?? Shocked Where? Too many American companies are already producing outside the country for the "cost saving". Some of these other countries are starting to catch on and are fighting back. There are complaints daily about the level of unemployment in this nation. What we need is to hold our own "major corporations" accountable, as well as the "minor companies" they utilize. One hand washes the other. Just one doesn't have to use soap. scratch
